Posting plan

How often should car dealers post on Facebook?

About once a day, and at least three times a week. Here is what the data says, and a week of posts you can make from one car.

The short answer

About once a day, and never fewer than three times a week. Keep it steady: a schedule you can hold beats a burst you can’t.

  • Hootsuite’s advice: post 1 to 2 times a day on Facebook.
  • In early 2025, retail businesses posted on Facebook 9 times a week on average, and businesses across all industries 14.
  • Reputation’s guide for car dealers: aim for about three posts a week.

So for most lots the answer sits between three posts a week and two a day. Start at one a day. If that is too much to keep up, three a week, every week, beats seven one week and none the next.

What the numbers say

Hootsuite looked at how often businesses posted in the first quarter of 2025. Across all industries it was 14.2 Facebook posts a week; in consumer goods and retail, the closest group to a car lot, 9.0. Its advice for Facebook is 1 to 2 posts a day. Reputation, which works with dealerships, says consistency is key and puts the aim at about three a week.

A week of posts from one car

A post a day sounds like a lot until one car carries the week. The photos you already took are enough: each day is a different kind of post with a different job, so your followers never see the same post twice.

    Monday

    Just arrived

The car, the price, the km and the stock number, the day it lands. It tells your followers something new is on the lot.

    Tuesday

    Carousel

Five photos in one swipe: the front, the side, the back, the seats, the dash. For the buyer who wants a closer look before they call.

    Reel

The same photos as a short vertical video. A reel is how a car reaches people who don’t follow you yet.

  4. What to check on a used car

    Thursday

    Tip post

No price and nothing for sale, just help. A tip post earns trust between the posts that sell.

    Friday

    Featured

The car again, as the pick of the week, right before the weekend.

    Saturday

    New reel style

One more reel from the same shoot, in a new look, for everyone who scrolled past on Wednesday.

    Sunday

    Sold

Say it when it goes. A Sold post shows your lot moves cars, and stops calls about a car you no longer have.

What to post when there’s no new car

A tip post, like what to check on a used car. A Sold post for the last car that went. A new reel style of a car still on the lot. Nothing on that list needs a new photo.

A post a day in StudioOS

  • Add the photos once, or paste the car’s listing link.
  • Make the Just arrived post, the carousel and the reel from the same photos.
  • Make another for a new look: a new reel style from the same shoot.
  • Switch the post to Sold when the car goes. It’s free.

Questions

  • Not when each post is different and useful. Hootsuite’s advice is 1 to 2 posts a day on Facebook. If you can’t keep that up, post three times a week, every week.

  • New arrivals with the price and km, carousels of the photos, short reels, a helpful tip, the pick of the week, and Sold posts.

  • No. One shoot covers the week. Each post uses the same photos in a different way.
